How to Post Video and Photos to Instagram Without Cropping 2021

If you are a big and frequent user of the Instagram app then you’re no stranger to uploading and sharing your pictures and videos online with other users.

There is also a chance that you have encountered issues uploading your content, especially in those moments when Instagram insists on cropping parts of your picture or video out, and this could be understandably frustrating.

Imagine Instagram cropping your nice Hermes bag out or those cool kicks you have on….frustrating right?

It’s even worse when you’re a new user and still trying to figure out your way around the app and Instagram won’t still let you post your picture without cropping out a part of it and reducing the beauty.

But not to worry, if you’ve encountered this issue and have had to discard some of your pictures and videos because of it then this article is for you.

You will get simple, easy-to-understand steps that will teach you how to work around cropping your pictures or videos the next time you want to share them.

If you’re not an Instagram user or are a complete alien to the social media app then you might be wondering why use Instagram anyway, well, read on.

Instagram is one of the biggest and most-used social networking apps all over the world with over a billion users.

The app allows registered users to share their pictures and videos with other users on their personalized accounts. This creates a niche of fun for most people within a space that can be utterly overwhelming.

The Instagram app also connects users all over the world and makes the saying ‘it is a small world’ actually make sense as it closes the wide gap between people across the globe.

It allows for reconnections between old acquaintances and friends and gives space to make new ones.

The app has also become one of the biggest branding and marketing tools in the world. It is a business-friendly app that allows users to advertise and market their products in different ways using sponsored adverts, shout-outs, and more.

It has also become a money-making app for some through paid brand influencing, paid shout-outs, sponsorships, and the likes.

You can open an Instagram account if your curiosity and interest have been piqued by following these simple steps:

  • Download and install the Instagram app to your phone from the Google play store if you’re an Android user or from the iOS app store if you use an iPhone.
  • Open the app and tap on the Signup option or you can choose to sign up through Facebook and click on Login with Facebook.
  • If you choose to sign up with Facebook you’ll need to provide your Facebook name and password before your account is opened.
  • If you choose the Signup option you will be redirected to filling in your email address and/or phone number depending on your choice.
  • A confirmation code will be sent to your email or phone number for verification.
  • Once you’ve verified your email address or phone number you’ll be required to create a username and choose a password and to fill in your basic information.
  • Your account will be created when you’ve filled out your basic information and chosen a unique username.
  • You can now edit your Instagram profile by adding a bio and profile picture and you’re good to go.

Of course, once your account is up and running you want to explore the app features and put your mark on it.

You’ll probably start with following your favorite celebrities and your family and friends and then you want to upload a picture or video of yourself.

You might not be able to figure out how to post a picture or video on the Instagram app easily and without wasting time and that’s why I’ve put together these easy steps to follow below:

  • Open the Instagram app and tap on the ➕icon
  • Choose the picture or video you want to post from your gallery ( you can select multiple pictures for a carousel post) or take a picture/video in the app and tap ➡️
  • Resize the picture or video to fit Instagram requirements and tap ➡️
  • Add a filter from the app if you want and tap ➡️
  • The last step is to add a caption to your post, tag other users if you want and add a location (this step is optional) and then tap ☑️

You can now also share your content across all your social media networks as long as they’re synced with your Instagram account.

In the excitement that you now have enough knowledge to upload a picture or video on your account, there’s a tendency to ignore the Instagram picture and video dimension requirements that guide whatever content you want to share.

In fact, you might not be aware that there are dimension requirements that guide pictures or videos to be posted let alone what they are, you only notice that you have to crop your content before posting or Instagram uploads the picture as a zoomed-in one which reduces the aesthetic appeal for you.

The reason why your content is cropped or zoomed and the quality reduced is because you have not met the dimension requirements.

Now, you might be wondering what the Instagram picture and video dimension requirements are, well, come along and let’s find out.

Instagram has quite a lot of different features and mediums on which you can showcase your pictures and videos.

>>Profile picture which is the display everyone sees and is used to distinguish your account as yours.

>> Feed which is your main profile page where you can share your pictures and videos for as long as you want, the highlights

>>Highlights that are on your profile and are a collection of saved content from your stories

>>Stories are pictures and short video clips that last for only 24hours and are not on your main profile page

>> Reels allow you to share short 15secs videos on your page and these videos also come up on the explore page

>> Boomerang is a video looping app that allows you to showcase videos as GIFs in six seconds

>> IGTV is also a video app that allows longer

videos of up to a few hours.

>> Live which allows you to go live on the web with your followers.

However, fun these features might be you will not enjoy the image quality or resolution your content is uploaded in if you don’t follow their dimension requirements.

Instagram picture and video dimension requirements involve the concepts that deal with the height and width and the size of a picture or video.

The aspect ratio deals with the ratio of width to height while the size deals with the resolution of the picture or video which ensures that uploads retain the same quality as was when the picture was first taken on a phone or camera.

When Instagram was first released posts could only be shared in squares but over time Instagram has upgraded to allow posts to be shared in squares, landscape, or portrait formats.

When uploading your profile picture the size should be between 110×110 pixels and 180×180 pixels. This is so the picture appears clearly on other devices apart from mobile devices, like on a laptop.

When Posting Pictures of Videos on Your Feed

For square pictures and videos, the ideal aspect ratio is 1:1 and the size/resolution is 1080×1080 pixels.

For landscape/ horizontal pictures the ideal resolution is 1080×1080 pixels and the aspect ratio is 1.91:1 or you can go up to 16:9. For videos, the ideal aspect ratio is also 1.91:1 and the resolution is 1080×607 pixels.

For portrait/ vertical pictures and videos the ideal aspect ratio is 4:5 and the resolution is 1080×1350 pixels.

When Posting Content on Your Stories and Reels

The ideal resolution recommendation for videos and pictures is 1080×1920 pixels and the aspect ratio should be 9:16

When Posting on IGTV, the Dimensions Are in Two Parts

  1. The IGTV video itself when vertical should have an aspect ratio of 9:16 and the size should be 1080×1920 pixels, when horizontal, the aspect ratio should be 16:8 and size 1920×1080 pixels.
  2. The cover photo is shown on your IGTV feed, which should be 420×654 pixels with an aspect ratio of 1:1.55.

The truth is no matter how hard you try there will still be occasions when your pictures or videos don’t meet up with Instagram standards, and when this happens Instagram will crop them before letting them be posted.

Of course, you want to avoid that because cropping a picture or video reduces its quality and beauty.

There are several ways to go about posting your pictures and videos without cropping, some of these are:

First way: Resize the picture

Instagram allows you to resize the picture to fit the frame they provide so you don’t have to crop your picture or video.

Second way: Screenshot

You can send the picture you want to post on Instagram to someone on WhatsApp or you can screenshot from your gallery.

When you do this the screenshot picture appears with a black border which you can easily crop out on Instagram without affecting the image quality of your picture.

Third way: Use Facebook Creator studio

Facebook Creator Studio lets you upload your pictures to Instagram without cropping. It even allows for multiple picture uploads but your Facebook and Instagram accounts have to be linked.

Fourth way: Use photo editing apps

These apps help you resize to fit the square and adjust the picture to your satisfaction and also eliminates the need to crop even the border from your picture.

If you’re using a Photo editor

Step 1: Download the app from Google play store or Apple store and open it on your phone.

Step 2: Upload your image into the Photo Editor

Step 3: Choose Frames

Step 3: Once you’ve selected the picture the app automatically fits it to square for Instagram. The app also lets you pinch the picture inwards to add borders which add to the beauty.

Step 4: Tap share when you’re done and you get the option of either sharing directly to Instagram or saving to your gallery.

If you’re using Unclip

Step 1: Download the app from Google play store or Apple store and open it on your phone.

Step 2: Select choice picture from the gallery or take a new one with camera in-app.

Step 3: From the options on the screen select the background you want. You can also rotate the image if you want.

Step 4: Tap on the Next button and share to the Instagram app.

The app would have automatically resized and adjusted it to the right Instagram dimensions so you can share without cropping.

If you’re using the Clideo Video Resizer

Step 1: Download the app from Google play store or Apple store and open it on your phone.

Step 2: Open the app and click on the blue button to upload a video, the tools support virtually all video formats.

Step 3: The app already has set sizes and you just need to choose a suitable one so the video is resized

Step 4: When you’re satisfied with the adjustment tap on the resize button.

Step 5: Download your video when it is ready and you can share it on Instagram, save it to the gallery or upload it to Google drive.
