What Is A Clipboard On Instagram And How To Find It

One of the most interesting social media platforms around is Instagram. The platform allows people to share pictures, videos, stories, and other interesting content they want their followers to view.

Sometimes, these moments we want to share aren’t even our moments but things we see on the internet. Have you ever noticed that you cannot do the regular copy and paste these internet images and videos directly onto the app?

Frustrating, right? Not being able to post videos and pictures because they are on the internet and not in your gallery.

This frustration even gets worse if you are new to the app or not up to date on the use of some of these apps – a state of being my sibling terms being a dinosaur.

Well, I am here to help you leave that prehistoric era and learn how to enjoy your app to the fullest, and yes, Instagram has a feature to save us from those frustrating moments via the Clipboard on Instagram. Do not get it confused with your normal clipboard function on your phone, please.

This is an entirely different clipboard to help solve the hassles associated with copying and pasting images or videos. So throughout this article, I would be addressing how to find the clipboard on the app, what exactly it does, and how it helps make your experience on Instagram better.

What is a Clipboard on Instagram?

A clipboard is a virtual board that temporarily lets you save your copied works for pasting later on. To understand this, I will give a little and fairly common scenario.

Take, for instance, an image you look up on Google, and you wish to use it in a document. You either press “Ctrl+c” on your personal computer or press on to the image for a while to save the image on your phone. (This action keeps the image on your clipboard).

You then move over to your document and either press “Ctrl+v” on your computer or tap and hold for a while on your phone till the paste option pops up, and then you paste it into your document.

Yes, that’s the function of a clipboard, regardless of the app or device; it lets you share content from one app to another without having to download it first.

However, if you try to do this to post or share a story on Instagram, it might not work as intended. Hence, a similarly functioning clipboard was created for Instagram users to bypass this hurdle.

The clipboard on Instagram is a board formed section on the Instagram app that acts as a temporary storage place for the copying and pasting of media and texts without having to go through the route of downloading them first.

However, this storage place is somewhat limited in the number of images or videos it can hold, so do not be surprised if some media are missing when you copy a lot consecutively. You might want to find out how many texts and media your clipboard can hold, though, to avoid looking for copied media.

Why do we need a clipboard on Instagram?

I am sure a lot of us can relate to Mary’s story. Her story is one situation where a clipboard would be helpful. Besides that, here are a few reasons I came up with as to why a clipboard might be needed for Instagram;

  • Instagram doesn’t let us copy and paste media from sources outside our internal gallery. This is mostly to avoid copyright infringement issues and prevent people from breaking copyright policies of videos, mostly since the app lets you share both pictures and videos. Yes, those tiny print attached to some media are their copyright policies, and while a lot of media on the internet has no copyright attached to them, the app would rather err on the side of caution.
  • Storage. Without a clipboard, any media that you wish to post on the app would have to be downloaded first before it can be posted. This might seem insignificant initially, but with time, it accumulates and takes up space within your device, not to talk of the data implications if you run on a metered network and not wi-fi.
  • Ease of use. Having a clipboard makes the process of copying and pasting between various apps easier to achieve as it is easier to understand and faster to accomplish than having to download from each app, searching your device for the downloaded material before being able to post. This board will keep all the pictures or text content that you have copied from other sources. The clipboard would serve as a storage place for your newly copied data from different internet sources like Facebook, Twitter, and so on.
  • Convenience. Imagine you want to post multiple media from various sources at the same time, without a clipboard. You would need to go to the various sites, download your media one by one, and then come over to Instagram to search for each of them in your gallery before being able to post. You can avoid all this if you can simply copy them and temporarily store them on your clipboard before moving over to Instagram and just pasting them without the need to search for them on your device.

Where to find a clipboard on Instagram

You can find your clipboard on Instagram in two locations, namely: when you want to create a new Instagram post or when you wish to create an Instagram story.

There is no single button on the app that helps to display the clipboard. Rather, there are a few steps that need to be followed before you can have access to the clipboard. However, once you locate it, you can easily copy and paste your media as you will.

How to use the Clipboard on Instagram

Utilizing the Instagram clipboard is easy to grasp once you have the proper set of instructions. However, the process slightly differs for creating an Instagram story and creating an Instagram post though.

the difference is quite small. Also, there is a little difference in using a clipboard on Instagram for an android device and an iPhone. But not to worry, we would be outlining the processes for all of them.

To access the clipboard for an Instagram post on your android device, simply follow these steps:

  • Go to the website you wish to get your media from and copy it.
  • Once you copy the media, head back to Instagram and log into your account.
  • On Instagram, tap the ‘+’ icon. It is in a square box at the bottom of your screen. This icon would direct you to your gallery.
  • Choose a picture in your gallery; any picture would be okay since it would not be the image you would post. Once you have done this, tap ‘Next.’
  • Pick a filter or edit your photo if you want to, and if you do not want to, simply click on the ‘Next’ tag again.
  • Once you do this, you will be directed to the ‘New Post’ page.
  • On this page, you should see a ‘Write a caption…’ part. Tap on this region and press down on this part for a few seconds.
  • If you successfully do this, a ‘Clipboard’ pop-up should be visible at this point. Once it shows up, click or tap on it.
  • Once you successfully pull this off, you will see the content you copied in your clipboard, and you can now select it from here.

If you are an iPhone user, we also have a way to help you out; simply follow these steps to access your clipboard,

  • Pick a filter or edit your photo if you want to and if you do not want to, simply click on the ‘Next’ tag again.
  • Once you do this, you will be directed to the ‘New Post’ page.
  • On this page, you should see a ‘Write a caption…’ part. Tap on this region and press down on this part for a few seconds.
    • At this juncture, you can paste your copied content now.
    • Finally, you can now click on the “Done” pop-up to finalize your post.

The difference between the android and iPhone instructions is the posting in the caption field, and this is because you won’t be able to save so many copy files on your iPhone. You can access only one copied material from a platform at a time.

Now that we have successfully helped you with accessing your clipboard to help you in making an Instagram post, we can also help you access the clipboard if you wish to create an Instagram story on either an android device or iPhone. You can access your clipboard for stories by following these steps;

  • Firstly, carry out the same step as earlier by going to the website you wish to get the media from and copy it.
  • Once you copy the media, head back to Instagram and log into your account.
  • Once you’re at your page, swipe right on your screen to arrive at your camera.
  • Once you get to your camera page, tap on your gallery option, which would be on the bottom left side of that page.
  • Choose any image in your gallery. Don’t worry, this would not be the media that would be posted.
  • Once the selected image or video comes up on your screen, tap on the ‘Aa’ button. You can locate this button on the upper right side of your screen.
  • Once you tap and hold on to this ‘Aa’ button which is the text entry box, for a few seconds, the ‘Clipboard’ option should come up, and you should be able to choose your copied material from your clipboard.
  • Once you can select your media in your clipboard, you should be able to paste it in the text entry box for an android device, while for an iPhone, your copied media would appear there directly.
